Hassan Chaudhry roasts ‘Ghulam Badshah Sundari’ finale

Pakistani drama critic and host Hassan Chaudhry has candidly criticized the concluding episode of the hit drama serial ‘Ghulam Badshah Sundari’, expressing disappointment over its character arcs and storytelling choices.

During his appearance on ‘Something Haute’, Hassan shared his humorous yet scathing review of the finale, recalling that he watched the episode while vacationing in southern Italy.

“I was in southern Italy, surrounded by beautiful winds and the sound of ocean waves, when I realized the final episode had been out for quite some time and I still hadn't watched it,” he said. “As the sea kept flowing, I too simply drifted along with the episode.”

The critic revealed that one particular moment from the finale has remained vivid in his mind not because of Ghulam, Badshah, or Sundari, but because of Lajo Mama.

Hassan jokingly questioned Lajo Mama’s sudden transformation, pointing out her elaborate attire, gold earrings, and glamorous makeover despite believing she was attending Badshah’s wedding rather than Ghulam’s.

He then shifted focus to Badshah’s character arc, arguing that throughout the drama's 30-plus episodes, no one managed to change Badshah’s mind despite repeated attempts. Hassan noted that Sundari herself pleaded with him, insisting his obsession was driven by ego rather than love. According to him, Badshah ignored advice from his wife, parents, Lajo Mama, his childhood friends, Khursheed Phuppo, and even Ghulam.

“What surprised me the most,” Hassan remarked, “was that the only person who ultimately convinced Badshah was Motiya through a voice note in the last episode. I was completely stunned.”

The host also criticized Ghulam's characterization, saying he never truly came across as the hero of the story.

“Ghulam didn’t feel like a hero even for 0.001 seconds,” he said. “He spent most of the episode crying. He never took a stand, fought for his love, or made any grand gesture that would make viewers believe Sundari deserved to end up with him.”

Hassan concluded by admitting that until the very end, he found Badshah to be a more compelling and heroic character than Ghulam.
