Inquiry finds Rs1.16 million irregularities in Faisalabad education department

A high-level inquiry has found alleged financial irregularities and embezzlement of government funds exceeding Rs1.16 million in the Faisalabad Education Department and recommended action against Deputy District Education Officer (DEO) City Muhammad Shakeel.

According to the inquiry report, allegations of embezzlement of government funds, preparation of fake records and irregularities in procurement against the officer have been declared prima facie proven.

The report stated that on May 26, 2026, the Director Punjab, acting as inquiry officer, forwarded the complete inquiry report along with recommendations to the Secretary School Education Punjab.

The inquiry officer recommended the immediate removal of the officer from his post and initiation of departmental proceedings under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability (PEDA) Act.

According to the findings, a total recovery of Rs1,165,373 has been recommended. The alleged irregularities relate to contingency grant expenditures, petrol funds and boundary wall repair allocations.

The report further revealed that multiple bills were issued in the name of a single vendor, while some procured items and construction works were allegedly not completed at all.

The inquiry officer also recommended blacklisting the vendors found to be involved in the alleged irregularities.

According to sources, despite the submission of the inquiry report nearly three weeks ago, no practical action has yet been taken by the office of the Punjab Education Secretary, raising questions about the delay in implementing the recommendations.
