Imran Khan, Bushra move IHC against conviction in Al-Qadir Trust case

Former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi challenged their conviction in the 190 million Pound case (Al-Qadir Trust case) in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

As per the text of the petition, filed through Barrister Salman Safdar, both husband and wife prayed to the IHC to suspend an accountability court (AC) verdict dated January 17, 2025 and order their release on bail. 

The couple also assured the high court that they would attend each and every hearing following the suspension of their sentence. 

It is worth-mentioning here that Imran and his wife have already filed appeals in the IHC in which they requested for the annulment of their sentence in the case and resultantly their acquittal. 

In their appeals, they had said that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) wielded its powers with a bad intention. “The very fact that the text of the agreement was not obtained from the National Crime Agency (NCA) shows reluctance on the part of the investigators to get to the truth. The NCA officials were not included in the investigation as well,” read the appeals.

The husband and wife argued that the prosecution had failed to present irrefutable evidence to substantiate their claims. “And due to incomplete investigation, the punishment was pronounced in haste.”

Therefore, they requested for the annulment of the AC’s decision. 

The AC had sentenced Imran and Bushra to 14 and seven years in jail, respectively in the case besides slapping fines on them.
