Nora Fatehi breaks silence on ‘Sarke Chunar’ controversy
Nora Fatehi has finally addressed the uproar surrounding the Hindi version of Sarke Chunar from the Kannada pan-Indian film KD: The Devil.
The track, criticized for allegedly vulgar content, faced a petition and was subsequently banned by the government, with the song removed from YouTube.
In a detailed social media video, Nora clarified that she had shot the original song in Kannada three years ago and had no involvement in the Hindi adaptation. She revealed that the makers released the Hindi version without her permission, urging fans not to blame her for the controversy.
“I shot this song in Kannada; I have nothing to do with the Hindi version. The makers translated something different to me, and nothing seemed inappropriate, as I don’t know the Kannada language,” she said. She also stated that her image was used without consent in the Hindi release.
The actress spoke out against AI-generated promotional images featuring her and Sanjay Dutt, calling the practice unacceptable. “They created a photo of Sanjay Sir and me I got angry when I saw it,” she said.
Nora further requested fans to stop sharing the Hindi song to prevent further backlash and emphasized that filmmakers should be held accountable, not performers. “Thank you all for supporting me. I will be more cautious moving forward. Please don’t use this to question my character,” she added.
Amid the controversy, Nora revealed that she has been dealing with personal grief, mentioning the recent loss of someone close to her, making this time emotionally challenging.
Following the backlash, India’s Minister of Railways and Communications, Ashwini Vaishnaw, confirmed the Lok Sabha-approved ban on the Hindi version of the song, stressing the need to balance reasonable restrictions with constitutional freedom of speech.
