Shawwal moon sighting claim emerges from Peshawar, testimonies under review
A local resident, Imranuddin, has claimed to have sighted the Shawwal crescent in Peshawar, raising the possibility of Eid ul Fitr being observed earlier, subject to official confirmation.
According to sources, Imranuddin reported sighting the moon along with his two children. The zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committee questioned him in detail and formally recorded his testimony.
Sources within the committee said that two testimonies regarding moon sighting have been received from Peshawar so far. However, officials noted that the accompanying children are young, and their statements may require further verification.
The zonal committee has forwarded the testimony to the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which will make the final decision after evaluating additional evidence from across the country.
Authorities indicated that the final announcement regarding Eid ul Fitr will depend on the receipt of more credible testimonies and their verification at the central level.
