Cotton ginners concerned over non-withdrawal of sales tax 

Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) Chairman Ehsanul Haq expressed serious concerns over the government for not withdrawing sales tax exemption on cotton and thread, reported 24NewsHD TV on Monday.

He said that it is the first time in the history of Pakistan that cotton ginners' season started during the second week of May. 

He said that three ginners factories are already operational in Khanewal and Burewala. He said that new cotton is being sold from Rs27,200 to Rs17,500 per 40 kilograms. 

PCGA Chairman Ehsanul Haq said that availability of local cotton will put a positive impact on textile sector of Pakistan

He said that sudden rise in mercury and non-availability of water directly affecting sugarcane crop in Pakistan.

The PCGA chairman further warned that if the tax exemption will not withdrawn then the crisis in the cotton industry would further deepen

Earlier on May 20, 2025, Punjab government Secretary of Agriculture Iftikhar Ali Saho has said that the cotton cultivation target will be achieved during the next ten days.

He said that the Punjab government assigned a cotton cultivation target on 35 lakh acres of land while cotton cultivation is already completed on 27 lakh acres of land.

Iftikhar Ali Saho said that special attention is being given to the safety and protection of the cotton crop. 

He said that the cotton crop is now completely safe from pesticides and other disease attacks.
