Lahore High Court upholds death sentence of murderer

Lahore High Court on Monday upheld the death sentence awarded to a murder convict who killed a bakery worker, reported 24NewsHD TV.

The two-member LHC bench disposed of the appeal filed by convict Muhammad Abbas by upholding trial court's decision to award death sentence to him

A bench comprising Justice Farooq Haider and Justice Ali Zia Bajwa dismissed the convict's appeal four years after the sentence had been handed down.

Deputy Prosecutor General Rana Muhammad Imran Anjum expressed opposition to the appeal against the death sentence.

According to the Deputy Prosecutor General, the City Kamalia Police Station, Chiniot, registered a case against Muhammad Abbas on February 4, 2021 which detailed that two workers working in Imran Bakers, Kamalia, had a fight which left one of them dead.

The police investigation, as well as the medical report, found the convict, Muhammad Abbas, guilty

According to the public prosecutor, the trial court sentenced the convict to death in light of the medical report and the statements of the witnesses.

“The convict’s appeal against the death sentence should be dismissed”, says Deputy Prosecutor General

The defence lawyer presented his arguments against the death sentence but ultimately could not satisfy the court.
