LHCBA’s lawyer finishes arguments in judges’ transfer case

Hamid Khan, counsel for the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA), on Monday said that the summary for the transfer of judges was disposed of in just one day, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.   

During the hearing of appeals filed by five judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the transfer of judges to the IHC, the counsel told the Supreme Court’s (SC) constitutional bench that at times, some tasks were completed in a rush. “In the judges’ transfer case, the task was completed at a lightning pace.”

A five-member bench, headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, heard the appeals. 

Justice Shakil Ahmad asked whether doing official work in a day was banned. 

Hamid said the purpose of such haste was something else. 

He further said that the acting chief justice of the Balochistan High Court gave his consent to the summary, while the chief justice of Pakistan’s consent was sought later.  

Addressing Hamid, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar remarked he wanted him to finish his arguments today.

Hamid said he would complete his arguments tomorrow. 

The case was adjourned until tomorrow. 

Justices Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, Babar Sattar, Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan and Saman Rafat Imtiaz — moved a joint petition before the Supreme Court with a plea not to treat the three transferred judges as IHC judges until they take a fresh oath under Article 194 of the constitution.
