SSP suspended as probe widens in Karachi’s high-profile Anmol “Pinky” drug case

The Government of Sindh has suspended City District SSP Syed Ali Hassan as investigations continue in the high-profile drug case involving Anmol, also known as “Pinky,” officials said.

A notification issued by the Sindh government said the suspension was ordered on the instructions of the provincial home minister. Officials said multiple aspects of the case are under review as the probe expands.

According to police, Anmol was arrested in Karachi in a drug seizure case and initially sent to jail on judicial remand. Investigators said expensive narcotics, including cocaine, and equipment allegedly used in drug preparation were recovered from her possession, and a detailed report was submitted to the court.

Police alleged the suspect operated an organised drug supply network using online orders, with riders delivering narcotics to customers. Investigators said the network’s links extend to Karachi, Lahore and other cities, and the possible involvement of foreign nationals is being examined.

Financial investigators are also reviewing transactions linked to the case. Police claimed bank records of alleged associates revealed transactions amounting to millions of rupees.

Separately, a murder case has surfaced in which the death of a drug user is being examined in connection with the broader investigation, officials said.

The suspect’s lawyer has challenged the legality of the arrest, alleging the cases were fabricated and raising concerns about the accused’s health in court.

In a recent development, a Karachi sessions court declared the judicial remand granted in nine drug cases against Anmol null and void. Further legal proceedings are underway.
