Man gets three-year jail term for leaking woman's private images

An Islamabad court has sentenced a man to three years in prison after finding him guilty of sharing a woman’s objectionable and private images on social media platforms, 24NewsHD TV reported on Wednesday.  

 Additional Sessions Judge West Islamabad, Abdul Hafeez Memon, ruled that the crime fell under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016.

According to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), the convict, Muhammad Arshad from Dera Ghazi Khan, disseminated the woman’s sexually explicit images to her husband and brother through multiple WhatsApp numbers.

He also posted the content on his Facebook account, causing severe distress to the victim.

NCCIA officials stated that Arshad was arrested on March 9, 2023.

During the arrest, investigators seized his mobile phone, SIM cards, and other digital evidence.

Forensic laboratory reports later strengthened the case by confirming Arshad’s involvement through technical analysis of the recovered devices.

After the completion of the investigation in what authorities described as a “serious and sensitive case,” the court delivered its verdict.

The judge awarded Arshad a three-year jail term along with a fine of Rs100,000.

The court further directed him to pay Rs 50,000 in compensation to the affected woman for the harm and distress caused.

The authorities hailed the conviction as a significant success in combating digital harassment and misuse of online platforms.
