A city court Monday approved the bail of Captain (retd) Safdar Awan, who was arrested earlier in the day on charges of violating the sanctity of the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammed Ali Jinnah, reported 24News TV.
The court approved Safdar’s bail against a Rs100000 surety bond.
A case was registered against PML-N leaders including PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz, her husband Capt (R) Safdar Awan and 200 others at the Brigade Police Station for chanting slogans at the Mazar-e-Quaid.
Maryam Nawaz gave the news in a tweet saying “Police broke my room door at the hotel I was staying at in Karachi and arrested Capt. Safdar.”
And interestingly she was the first to give the news of her husband’s bail as well during a press conference along with other PDM leaders when even the court proceedings were still in the process raising questions on the whole scenario.
Maryam Nawaz said that her husband, Safdar had been released on bail after he was arrested earlier from the hotel the couple were staying in.
"Mariyum Aurangzeb has just informed me that Safdar has been released on bail," said Maryam during a news conference, flanked by JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf.
"Me and Captain Safdar will go from Karachi together," she said after a lengthy press conference in which she bashed the federal government.
But at that moment neither lawyers nor supporters in the courtroom were aware of any such development as court proceedings regarding bail were still in the process.
However, after 40 minutes her saying came true after the court ordered the release of Capt Safdar on bail.
