Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Sunday demanded legal action under Article 10 of the Election Act against federal ministers for levelling allegations against the Chief Election Commissioner.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, PML-N Spokesperson Maryam Aurangzeb in a statement said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was being blackmailed on the orders of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
She said Imran Khan was putting pressure on the ECP to get a clean chit in the case of illegal foreign funding of his party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). She said the ECP was being pressured by the government to stop reports of election ‘fog’ and theft.
Maryam said that anger over the defeat in cantonment board elections was being vented on the ECP on the orders of Imran Khan. She said that the ministers were making baseless allegations against the ECP Chief.
The PML-N spokesperson said that the ECP members and the chief were speaking the language of the constitution and the law which the government did not understand.
She said that provoking the members of the ECP to revolt against the Chief Election Commissioner was a betrayal of the Constitution and an attack on the constitutional institutions.
