Senior PML-N leader and former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Wednesday said there was no option but to hold fresh elections, but added that changing the system before the polls had become vital, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Talking to media persons at Jati Umra, Abbasi remarked that there was no need to remove the government which had already gone. Funeral was being delayed, it would be better to complete the job soon, said the PML-N senior leader.

He noted that the people were facing great hardships as the state of affairs had reached worst point. “I have served as a prime minister of this country. It will take five years to fix it.”

About the PDM rally planned for December 13 in Lahore, Abbasi opined that he didn’t think that the court would stop the opposition gathering.

The remarks came as a petition has been filed with the Lahore High Court to get restraining orders against the rally while citing the coronavirus spread.

He said the Lahore rally would be more successful than that in Multan and the party supremo – Nawaz Sharif – was also going to address the public.

The one-day extension in the parole for PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz reflected the petty thinking of the government.

When asked the recent BBC interview of former minister Ishaq Dar, he said there was nothing to worry about that. “It is true that he has only property in Pakistan,” Abbasi maintained and added that the PML-N leader had spent 12 years outside the country and he didn’t require to disclose his assets.

Repeating the statement of Dar, he also told the reporters that people had died in NAB custody.

Commenting on the formation of PTI government in Gilgit-Baltistan, Abbasi said no one knew anything about the people getting elected in the regional polls. 

The anti-graft body did not execute a justice-based job in the last two-and-half-year and had not been able to a proof a single allegation against the PML-N, said the former prime minister.

Abbasi expressed his views about the interview as the government members have been actively citing it on social and mainstream media as a proof of the PML-N’s failure.

In this connection, Shahzad Akbar – special assistant to the prime minister – told a press conference in Islamabad that corruption had been proved against Dar after the BBC interview.
