Pakistan reports 78 new Covid-19 deaths and 4,473 cases

The coronavirus cases officially confirmed in Pakistan jumped to 217,809 after another 4,339 people tested positive for the virus during the past 24 hours (Wednesday).

The same period shows the figures released by National Command and Operation Centre on Thursday morning, also saw 78 more deaths, raising the overall toll to 4,473.

Meanwhile, 22,128 tests were conducted in different parts of the country on Wednesday, which means the total number now stands at 1,327,638. Thus, the ratio of tests (per million population) in Pakistan has reached 6,011.

There are 108,642 active cases in the country with 2,723 of them in a critical condition. These patients are being treated in intensive care units of different hospitals.

On the other hand, a total of 104,694 people have so far fully recovered from the infection. Hence, the number of closed cases in the country is 109,167 [death toll + total number of recoveries].

As far as the region-wise details of the deaths is concerned, Punjab is, unfortunately, way ahead with 1,784 deaths. Sindh is second with 1,406 deaths followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 973, Islamabad 129, Balochistan 121, Azad Kashmir 32 and Gilgit-Baltistan 28.

Meanwhile, Sindh continues to remain the most-affected region with respect to the number of infected people, as the number of cases in the recorded in the province has increased to 86,795.

The figures for the other regions are:  77,740 in Punjab, 26,938 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 13,082 in Islamabad, 10,608 in Balochistan, 1,511 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 1,135 in Azad Kashmir.
