Following a clash between two student groups at Punjab University, police detained 46 students involved in firing on university premises, and sent them to jail for 30 days, reported 24NewsD TV channel on Thursday.

According to the police, the deteriorating law and order situation on the campus was the reason for sending the students to prison, and for that purpose, detention orders were obtained from the district administration.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Iqbal Town Usman Tipu said that the daily violent incidents between student organizations prompted them to take this action.

It is worth mentioning that 20 students will be suspended initially and their cases will be forwarded to the PU Disciplinary Committee.

Further punishment to the students will be determined after reviewing their cases.

Police arrested more than 50 students following an altercation between the two groups, Punjab Council and Pakhtun Organization, on the campus of the university.
