Police around the world are on the frontlines in the fight against coronavirus but it also them vulnerable to the infection. That’s why the virus is spreading among policemen in Karachi too as 15 of them have so far been tested positive.

According to 24NewsHD, the infected personnel were performing duties in South and East districts as well as Special Security Unit (SSU), investigations and other departments.

In effort to tackle the situation and bolster the morale of cops, the Karachi police chief, Additional IG Ghulam Nabi Memon, directed the relevant officials to provide necessary medical care to the infected policemen.

Like other essential workers, the police are performing their duties in tough conditions as they guarantee the success of lockdown. However, it means more interaction with the people, thus making them one of the prime targets of coronavirus infection.

Thus the Karachi police are not alone in this situation. The New York Police Department (NYPD) [which manages of the New York City area] has far recorded 30 deaths because of the virus.

At one stage, a total of 4,371 coronavirus cases have been reported among the NYPD staff members.

This high rate of infection corresponds with the number of cases and deaths reported in the New York State where the virus has been found in 247,215 people with 18,298 deaths.

It is worth noting that the New York State has more coronavirus cases than any country of the world.
