Senior journalist Absar Alam wounded critically in gun attack in Islamabad

Absar Alam, a senior journalist and former chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), was wounded critically when he came under a gun attack on Tuesday evening.
According to the initial information, Absar Alam was doing walk in Street 32 of F-11 Sector when the assailant fired a shot at him. He received the bullet in the lower half of his belly and was hospitalised in a critical condition.
Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed phoned the inspector general of Islamabad Police and told him to arrest the assailant as soon as possible. He said the assailant could not escape the punishment.
Federal Information Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain condemned the gun attack on Absar Alam and said that police had been directed to investigate the incident. He said that findings of the investigation would be shared with the public.

Shortly after the attack, Islamabad Police Inspector General Qazi Jamil-ur-Rehman formed an investigation team under the supervision of the deputy inspector general of police (operations). The senior superintendent of police (SSP) for investigation will lead the investigation team, which will look into all aspects of the incident.
