Islamabad Red Zone to remain closed on April 21 amid security measures for US-Iran talks

The district administration has announced that offices in the Red Zone of Islamabad will remain closed on April 21, extending earlier directives issued in light of heightened security arrangements.

According to an official notification, employees of government offices located in the Red Zone will continue to follow a “work from home” policy. The decision comes a day after authorities had instructed all government ministries, divisions and federal institutions in the Red Zone and Extended Red Zone to adopt remote working.

The administration stated that the extension has been made in view of preparations for the second round of US-Iran peace talks and the prevailing high-security alert. Offices and educational institutions in the Red Zone will remain closed, with officials directed to continue their duties remotely.

Authorities have completely sealed the Red Zone and its surrounding areas, restricting all forms of traffic. Only limited official movement is being allowed, while public, private and heavy transport services—including buses and trucks—have been suspended until further notice.

Key government facilities, including the Pakistan Secretariat, along with federal ministries and divisions, have been instructed to operate from home to minimize road congestion and facilitate security arrangements.

Officials said these measures are aimed at ensuring comprehensive security during the arrival of foreign delegations and the ongoing peace talks. Citizens have also been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and use alternative routes during this period.
