Veteran politician Mir Hasil Bizenjo passes away due to cancer

President of the National Party (NP) Senator Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo passed away due to cancer on Thursday in Karachi. He was 62.
National Party’s Secretary General Jan Muhammad Buledi confirmed the death of Mir Hasil Bizenjo in a tweet.

Hasil Bizenjo was suffering from lung cancer and was admitted Thursday morning to the Aga Khan Hospital Karachi, 24NewsHD TV channel reported.
Veteran leader from Balochistan Hasil Bizenjo was born on February 3rd, 1958 at Naal, Tehsil of Khuzdar district. After the demise of his father Mir Ghous Bakhsh Bizenjo on August 11, 1989, Hasil Bizenjo joined the Pakistan National Party (PNP).
He faced imprisonment for his political views in the PPP Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto era, General Zia-ul-Haq and General Pervaiz Musharraf time period.
Hasil Bizenjo became senator in March 2015 for six years till March 2021.
Bizenjo served as Minister for Maritime Affairs in 2016, which was later renamed as Ministry of Maritime Affairs, and also served in PML-N Shahid Khaqan Abbasi cabinet from August 2017 to May 2018
He was nominated as Chairman Senate by opposition parties Rehbar committee but lost. Bizenjo started the 1990 Pakistani general election on the seat of the Pakistan National Party (BNP).
He founded Balochistan National Democratic Party (BNDP), which later in 2003 merged with Baloch National Movement and as the result of this merger National Party was founded. Bizenjo was elected president of the National Party in 2014.
PPP Senator Sherry Rehman in a tweet said: “Shocked, saddened and bereaved to hear of friend Senator Hasil Bizenjo’s passing. He had been battling cancer so bravely few suspected how advanced the disease was. His public life was marked by progressive, principled politics as an advocate for the vulnerable. End of an era.”
