Hiba Ali Khan is under fire over ‘too-liberal-women remarks 

Hiba Ali Khan has sparked debate with her recent comments about social media’s impact on women, suggesting that the digital space has encouraged excessive liberalism and unhealthy competition among them.

During a podcast, the actress shared personal experiences and observations about the modern dynamics of relationships, marriage, and societal pressures.

Hiba revealed that competition among women is one of the major factors contributing to divorces in Pakistan. Sharing an incident about her close friend, she said, “One of my very dear friends’ husband once called me and said, ‘Hiba, we are heading towards divorce only because of her competitive nature.’”

The actress went on to explain that her friend’s husband found it increasingly difficult to cope with her constant demands, which were influenced by what she saw on social media or in other people’s lives. “Whenever she noticed others buying expensive items, she would come to her husband and demand a car,” Hiba said.
She highlighted how women sometimes ignore cultural and family values due to changing trends. “For example, despite knowing she comes from a conservative family, she insisted on wearing sleeveless outfits. I believe social media has made women bold to a point where they have become excessively liberal,” Hiba remarked.

Her statements have since drawn mixed reactions online. 
While some agreed with her that social media often fuels materialism and unrealistic expectations, others criticised her for generalising women’s behaviour and labelling it as “too liberal.”

Hiba Ali Khan, who recently made a successful comeback after a five-year break with the hit drama series Mai Ri, is currently appearing in multiple on-air dramas. 

The actress’s comments add to the ongoing discourse around the influence of social media in shaping modern lifestyles, particularly among women in South Asian societies. 
For many, her words reflect the challenges traditional families face in balancing cultural values with evolving trends, while for others, they highlight the double standards often imposed on women regarding freedom of choice and self-expression.
