Why Taylor Swift fans furious over resurfaced Margaret Qualley interview 

Taylor Swift’s loyal fanbase, the Swifties, have erupted online after a resurfaced Harper’s Bazaar interview with actress Margaret Qualley, wife of Swift’s longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff,  went viral nearly two years after it was first recorded.

The interview clip, originally filmed in October 2023 when Qualley, 30, was the magazine’s cover star, was reposted on TikTok this week “in honor of Taylor Swift’s 12th studio album announcement.” The timing quickly reignited fan debate, leading to a wave of backlash in the comments section.

In the Q&A segment, Qualley was asked a trivia-style question: “How many songs has Jack Antonoff written or co-produced with Taylor Swift?” Reading quickly off a cue card, she guessed “71” before being corrected with the answer, “56.” Laughing it off, the actress admitted she didn’t know the exact number but praised her husband and Swift’s creative partnership:

“Watching them work is like crazy. It’s amazing. It’s two people at the very best of what they do doing the thing together. It’s like a rocket ship. It’s insane.”
Qualley also named her favourite tracks from Swift’s Midnights album — “Maroon” and “Lavender Haze” — though she admitted she loved them all.

Despite her compliments, fans were quick to criticise Harper’s Bazaar for repeatedly putting her in awkward positions regarding Swift.

One fan wrote: “Stop asking this woman about Taylor Swift.”
Another added: “I’m almost certain this woman doesn’t want to talk about how many songs her husband has produced with another woman.”

This isn’t the first time Qualley has gone viral for her uncomfortable reactions when asked about the pop icon. Earlier this year, she made headlines after dodging a question about Swift’s then-upcoming album The Life of a Showgirl during a Today Show appearance to promote her film Honey Don’t! alongside Aubrey Plaza and Chris Evans.

The resurfaced clip has once again highlighted the delicate line between Qualley’s own career and her connection to her husband’s work with one of the biggest stars in the world. For Swifties, however, the frustration seems less about Qualley herself and more about media outlets using her interviews as a proxy for questions about Swift.
