Beaconhouse edge past Aitchison College to clinch Ghani Glass School title

Beaconhouse School System emerged champions of the Ghani Glass School Cricket Tournament after defeating Aitchison College by two wickets in a thrilling final, displaying competitive school-level cricket and drawing praise from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi,24NewsHD TV reported on Saturday.

Batting first, Aitchison College were bowled out for 201 runs.

Zulnoorain Qayyum top-scored with 47 runs, while Wasi made 42, Ali Hussain contributed 27, Sudais Alam scored 18, Daud added 16, and Haseebullah chipped in with 16 runs.

Beaconhouse bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, with Naveed Khan and Ali Usman Khan claiming four wickets each, while Yaqoob Khan and Hasnain Dar picked up one wicket apiece.

In reply, Beaconhouse successfully chased the target in 30.5 overs, losing eight wickets.

Yaqoob Khan anchored the innings with 55 runs, supported by Ahmed Shazil, who scored 27, and Husnain Dar, who added 18 runs.

Ali Usman Khan remained unbeaten on 35, while Mohammad Ahmed finished not out on 12, guiding their team home.

For Aitchison College, Mughith Wasif took three wickets, while Ali Malik and Sudais Alam claimed two wickets each.

Haseebullah Shah picked up one wicket.

Addressing the closing ceremony, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi congratulated both teams and praised the quality of cricket on display.

 “We thought Aitchison College would win, but Beaconhouse played very well. That’s cricket,” he said. He credited Moez Anwar for the successful organization of the tournament.

The PCB chairman also announced financial support to promote school cricket, declaring Rs 5 million for Beaconhouse and Rs 2.5 million for Aitchison College to help develop the game at the grassroots level.

At the prize distribution ceremony, the winning Beaconhouse team was awarded a cash prize of Rs 1 million along with the tournament trophy, while runner-up Aitchison College received Rs 500,000.
