Advance tax on mobile phone cards to be abolished

The government has given a go-ahead for a relief package for mobile phone users, source said on Saturday.
Under the relief package, a part of the telecom tax will be abolished in phases and the phone users will get benefit after the upcoming budget, the insiders said.
The authorities will abolish advance tax on mobile phone cards and in the first phase, 2 per cent tax relief will be given and 2.5 pc in the second phase, they said.
An ECC meeting gave the approval after a sub-committee suggested gradual abolition of 12.5pc advance income tax on telecom.
Also, the ECC considered and approved a summary regarding the government’s sovereign guarantee for a PSDP project titled National Electronics Complex of Pakistan (NECOP) being executed by the National Engineering and Scientific Commission.
