The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday informed the Lahore High Court (LHC) that inquiries against Chaudhry brothers – Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi – has been closed over lack of evidence, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The LHC two-member bench headed by Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan heard the case on the petition filed by the Chaudhry brothers against the powers of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman.

NAB Director General Shehzad Saleem informed the LHC that inquiries against Chaudhry brothers and their families have been closed.

The court has disposed of the petitions of the Chaudhry brothers, the TV channel reported.

Chaudhry brothers’ lawyer Amjad Pervaiz appeared before the court and said other courts have also ruled on the role and conduct of the NAB investigations, which has become an institution of political engineering. “Chairman NAB ordered a reinvestigation of the 20-year-old case. The NAB Chairman has no authority to reopen the inquiry. We are a political family and political revenge has been inflicted on us,” the lawyer told the court on behalf of the petitioner.

The lawyer said, “The NAB did not find any evidence of corruption from any financial institution against Chaudhry Shujaat and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi. Our position is that the petitioners have a spotless political career and never committed corruption.”

He further maintained that it is illegal to upgrade the inquiry against Chaudhry Shujaat and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to an investigation level.

The NAB investigation against Chaudhry Brothers was started at the request of ‘unknown persons’.

Amjad Pervaiz Advocate said houses of the petitioners, Chaudhry brothers, were also searched for evidence but nothing was found.
