Discos’ poor show inflicts Rs122b loss on national kitty: Nepra report

National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has issued the annual performance report of distribution companies (Discos) revealing a loss of Rs122 billion the national exchequer had to face due to poor show exhibited by some Discos, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
The Nepra report regarding Discos reveals that due to distributing and transmitting power exceeding its target by some power distribution companies national kitty had to bear loss of Rs122.6 billion.
However, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan along with K-Electric distribution companies saved an amount of Rs 2.15 billion for the national exchequer. K-Electric, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and Multan exhibited better performance than the target set for them, said the report.
The inefficiency of Peshawar, Sukkur, Hyderabad, Lahore and Quetta distribution companies inflicted a loss of Rs 122 billion on the national kitty. Regarding bearing losses in connection with distribution of power, Peshawar remained first followed by Hyderabad, added the report.
Gujranwala, by saving power than the set target, saved Rs 1.1 billion, Faisalabad Rs 640 million and Multan saved Rs 900 million.
Islamabad Electric also failed to meet its target and burdened the national treasury by Rs 220 million. Lahore’s distribution company inflicted a loss of Rs 9.3 billion on national kitty. Poor performance of Peshawar Electric Supply Company caused a hefty loss of Rs 64 billion to national exchequer. Similarly, Hyderabad Electric Supply caused a loss of Rs21.4 billion, Quetta Rs 18.6 billion and Sukkur Rs14 billion to national treasury.
