KP Govt, Opp agree to appoint Azam Khan as Caretaker CM 

The provincial Government and the opposition reached a consensus to appoint Azam Khan as the Caretaker Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Friday.

According to the 24News HD TV channel, KP Chief Minister Mehmood Khan and the Opposition Leader Akram Durrani of the dissolved assembly have confirmed that they agreed on the name of Azam Khan as Caretaker CM.

Azam Khan is a retired bureaucrat and has served the nation as Chief Secretary of KP. Azam Khan was the Chief Secretary of KP from 1990 to 1993 and also served the province as the Finance Secretary.

Azam Khan belongs to the Charsadda district of Kp and his brother Abbas Khan is the former Inspector General of Police.

He has served as the Minister for the Finance, Planning & Development Department, Federal Secretary Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Resources, and Federal Secretary Ministry of Religious Affairs. 

Earlier, he held important positions in the KP government where he served as the Chief Secretary and Secretary of different ministries. 

He was educated at the University of Peshawar, following which he went to Lincoln's Inn, London to complete his Barrister-at-Law degree (1962).

For reaching a consensus on the name of the caretaker chief minister, a meeting between KP Chief Minister Mehmood Khan and Opposition Leader Akram Durrani was held at the Speaker's House in Peshawar.

In the meeting, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) KP chapter President Pervaiz Khattak and KP Assembly Speaker Mushtaq Ghani were also present.

After the meeting, Mahmood Khan and Akram Durrani held a press conference and announced that they have agreed on the name of former bureaucrat Azam Khan as Caretaker CM.

Mahmood Khan said the name of Azam Khan has been agreed upon as caretaker CM and it is for the first time in history, there was an agreement between the opposition and the government.

He also confirmed that they have agreed on the name of Azam Khan after consulting Imran Khan and they welcome him.

Akram Durrani while talking to the media said the people of the KP province were very worried about the matter but they have chosen Azam Khan with consensus on merit.

Opposition Leader Akram Durrani said they agreed on the name of a person who is acceptable to everyone.
