Junaid Safdar’s wedding issue raised in Punjab Assembly

The wedding of Junaid Safdar, son of the Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has become a matter of debate in the Punjab Assembly on Tuesday, after a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker submitted a motion for adjournment alleging violations of wedding-related laws.

PTI member Sheikh Imtiaz submitted the motion, claiming that wedding festivities continued beyond 10:00 pm, in violation of the prescribed timings.

The motion further alleged that the One-Dish Law was breached during the ceremony, asserting that 12 different dishes were served at the event.

The parliamentarian questioned the selective implementation of laws, stating that ordinary citizens face strict restrictions, while influential individuals appear to enjoy exemptions.

“Are laws meant only for the poor?” the motion asked.

Sheikh Imtiaz demanded that the House suspend its regular proceedings to hold a detailed discussion on the matter, terming it an issue of public importance and legal accountability.

The motion has added to political tension in the provincial assembly, with opposition members pressing for clarity and equal enforcement of laws, while government benches have yet to formally respond to the allegations.

The development has reignited debate over governance, rule of law, and the perception of double standards in the enforcement of public regulations in Punjab.
