Crops damaged after River Sutlej bursts its banks at Arifwala 

Different parts of Sindh, including Karachi, received monsoon rains during the last 24 hours, turning the weather pleasant, while on the other hand, the River Sutlej burst its banks at Arifwala with water entering residential areas and fields, causing damage to the crops, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday. 

In Karachi, rain was reported from different localities, including those adjoining the airport, Malir, Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, North Karachi and New Karachi. 

Similarly, Malir Cantonment, Safoora Goth, Scheme 33, Tariq Road, Bahadurabad, Stadium Road and Baloch Colony also received rain.  

On the other hand, the Met Office predicted that the city would receive light to moderate rainfall during the next 24 hours. “The weather in the city will remain humid today due to high moisture levels,” it said, adding, “Today the maximum temperature may touch the 34 degrees Celsius mark.” 

Winds were blowing in the city from the westerly direction at a speed of 14 kilometers per hour, while the humidity level was recorded at 78 per cent.  

Showers were also reported from other parts of Sindh, including Hyderabad, Matiari, Badin, Mirpur Khas, Tando Allah Yar, Khairpur and Shikarpur.

Heavy rain lashes Khairpur

What started as a drizzle in Khairpur at night turned into a downpour in the morning, offering people a respite from hot and humid weather.

The rain, however, badly damaged the date crop. 

Shikarpur receives rain 

Intermittent rainfall in Shikarpur and its surrounding areas besides turning low-lying areas into pools of water also led to the suspension of power supply to different localities after several SEPCO feeders tripped.   

Rain was reported from different areas, including Lakki Ghulam Shah, Khanpur and Garhi Yasin. 

The Met Office stated that the current spell of rains would persist for the next 24 hours.

Larkana, suburbs receive rain 

Intermittent rainfall in Larkana and suburbs submerged low-lying areas.

In Larkana, 52 millimeters of rainfall was recorded while Mohenjo Daro received 51 millimeters of rain.  

The Met Office said more rains were expected during the next few days.

Flood alert issued in Kotli 

The release of 13,000 cusecs of water from Galpur Dam into Poonch River in Kotli, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) prompted the local administration to issue an alert on Sunday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

The administration warned the people not to go near the river. 

Rain and flood alert issued in Skardu

Similarly, the local administration of Skardu and the DDM on Sunday issued an alert in which it said that since heavy rains and strong winds were expected in the area between July 22 and July 26, therefore, there were risks of deluge in streams and nullahs.

People were urged to avoid travelling unnecessarily and stay away from nullahs and streams.  

Significant rise in water level in River Indus

Meanwhile, the water level in the River Indus rose significantly after the spillways of the Tarbela Dam were opened on Saturday, releasing 260,000 cusecs of water, prompting the administration to urge people living in villages Haroon, Daman, Shadi Khan, Formili and Attock Khurd to remain alert.  

Section 144 has been imposed in the area in order to prevent gatherings of people.

Rawal Dam's spillways closed

The spillways of the Rawal Dam were closed six hours after they were opened.
