Heart patients suffer as echo machines fail at Lahore’s Mayo Hospital

Heart patients at Lahore’s Mayo Hospital, one of Punjab's largest public healthcare facilities, are facing serious difficulties due to the breakdown of most of the hospital's echocardiography (Echo) machines, disrupting essential diagnostic services, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

According to sources, three out of the hospital's four echocardiography machines are currently out of order, leaving only one operational machine to handle the workload.

The only functioning Echo machine has been reserved exclusively for indoor (admitted) patients, leaving a large number of outdoor patients without access to the crucial diagnostic test.

Patients suffering from heart diseases have expressed frustration over the unavailability of echocardiography services, saying the delay in testing is affecting their diagnosis and treatment.

The disruption is not limited to cardiac patients alone. Patients admitted to various other departments who also require echocardiography examinations are reportedly unable to undergo the test because of the shortage of functional equipment.

Hospital sources said the prolonged disruption in echocardiography services has significantly affected patient care, causing delays in diagnosis and treatment and increasing hardships for patients seeking timely medical attention.
