Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday congratulated Andy Burnham on assuming office as prime minister of the United Kingdom and expressed Pakistan’s desire to further strengthen bilateral trade, investment and cooperation.

Burnham formally became British prime minister on July 20 after being appointed by King Charles III to form a new government.

In a post on X, Shehbaz extended his best wishes to Burnham and wished him success during his tenure.

“Heartiest congratulations to @andyburnham on assuming office as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom,” Shehbaz said.

The prime minister said he looked forward to working closely with his British counterpart to further strengthen the historic and deep-rooted bonds of friendship and cooperation between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.

He said the relationship between the two countries was anchored by millions of British Pakistanis, who served as a vibrant bridge between Pakistan and the UK.

Shehbaz expressed his government’s determination to take Pakistan-UK relations to new heights, with a particular focus on expanding bilateral trade and investment.

“Together, we will strive to elevate Pakistan-UK relations, in particular, our bilateral trade and investment partnership, to new heights,” he said.
