According to the 24News HD TV channel, the Federal Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman apprising the state of emergency has directed the national and provincial disaster management departments to remain alert.

She has said that Pakistan will have monsoon rains till at least August 2022 so an integrated strategy, including all precautionary measures, should be adopted to deal with the potentially devastating effects of monsoon rains.

The federal minister said heavy rainfall is expected in Punjab and Sindh. Areas in the foothills of the Himalayas, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and central Punjab are likely to receive above-normal rainfall. She added that the urban areas are also likely to face the risk of torrential rains.
