PML-N lawmaker calls for Nawaz Sharif's photo on Rs5,000 currency note

A Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member of the Punjab Assembly on Saturday called for inclusion of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's portrait on Pakistan's Rs5,000 currency note alongside the photo of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Speaking during a session of the Punjab Assembly, PML-N MPA Arshad Malik proposed that Nawaz Sharif's picture should feature on the country's highest-denomination currency note in recognition of his contribution to Pakistan.

The lawmaker said Nawaz Sharif had played a significant role in putting the country on the path of progress and had made notable contribution to its development during his time in office.

Malik argued that placing Nawaz Sharif's portrait alongside that of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah's on the Rs5,000 note would serve as an acknowledgement of the former prime minister's service to the nation.

The proposal has sparked debate in political circles, with supporters and critics expressing differing views. The demand has also generated widespread discussion on social media, where users have shared mixed reactions over the suggestion.

No official response has yet been issued by the federal government or the State Bank of Pakistan regarding the proposal.
