PPP nominates Amjad Hussain Advocate for Gilgit-Baltistan CM's office

The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) on Saturday nominated Amjad Hussain Advocate as its candidate for the post of Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan following its strong performance in the recently concluded regional elections.

According to party sources, this is the first time the PPP has nominated a leader from the Gilgit region for the province's top executive office.

Amjad Hussain Advocate currently serves as the President of PPP Gilgit-Baltistan and was elected from the GBA-1 Gilgit constituency in the recent polls.

The nomination comes after the Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan announced the official results of 21 out of the region's 24 constituencies.

According to the Election Commission's notification, the PPP emerged as the largest party by winning nine seats, followed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) with six seats. The Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) secured four seats, Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) won one seat, while one independent candidate was also declared successful.

The Election Commission has yet to announce the results of GBA-9 Skardu-3, GBA-15 Diamer-1 and GBA-17 Diamer-3.

The Commission also allocated the reserved seats, awarding three of the six women's seats to the PPP, two to the PML-N and one to the IPP.

Similarly, one technocrat seat each was allocated to the PPP, PML-N and IPP.

PPP senior leader Nayyar Hussain Bukhari said the party would enjoy a clear majority of between 17 and 19 seats after the inclusion of reserved and technocrat seats.

"God willing, the Pakistan People's Party will form the government in Gilgit-Baltistan," Bukhari said, expressing confidence that the party would secure the chief minister's office.
