FIA arrests suspect in Karachi, seizes foreign currency worth millions in hawala crackdown

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a suspect during a crackdown against illegal foreign currency trade and hawala hundi operations in Karachi, officials said on Friday.

According to an FIA spokesperson, the action was carried out by the Commercial Banking Circle (CBC) Karachi on the directives of the director of the Karachi Zone and under the supervision of the deputy director.

The FIA team conducted a targeted operation in the Mochko area within the limits of Mochko police station, where accused Abdul Rehman, son of Sultan Muhammad, was taken into custody.

During the raid, officials recovered Iranian currency worth approximately Rs289 million from the suspect’s possession. A mobile phone was also seized, which reportedly contains records of illegal financial transactions.

The spokesperson said evidence related to the buying and selling of foreign currency and hawala hundi activities was found in the device.

The accused, along with the recovered currency and evidence, was shifted to the FIA CBC Karachi office. Legal proceedings have been initiated, while further investigation is underway, the spokesperson added.
