Removal of IRSA member from Sindh illegal: Wahab

Describing the removal of IRSA (Indus River System Authority) member from Sindh as unconstitutional and illegal, Senator Murtaza Wahab on Wednesday said the federal government had bulldozed the law.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, who is Sindh government’s spokesperson, said Sindh had not been consulted on the issue which was mandatory under the law.

It’s a one-sided decision, he said and added that the PTI government was not following the law since coming into power.

The comments came as the federal cabinet approved the process of removing the IRSA members from Punjab and Sindh for their failure to discharge the duties, especially the installation of telemetry system on the Indus Basin Irrigation System.

Talking about the symbolic Sindh Assembly session held by the three opposition parties – PTI, PML-F and MQM – against Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani’s decision to adjourn the session, the spokesperson described the move as his prerogative under the rules.

The speaker decided to adjourn the session because of 27th of Ramazan and the coronavirus situation, he added.

He also questioned why the opposition members did not present and fight Sindh’s case over the IRSA issue.

Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani remarked that why media persons take the opposition members seriously when even their leader do not give importance or pay attention to them.

He was replying to a question about the rumours and demand of imposing governor’s rule in the province.
