The electricity shortfall in the country has touched 6,580 MW as power generation is low due to lack of fuel, 24NewsHD TV channel Friday reported quoting its sources.

Power generation in the country is 19,420 MW, said sources in the energy ministry, whereas, the demand for electricity is more than 26,000 MW.

The public and private power plants are not receiving enough coal and LNG for electricity generation, and, the closure of coal and LNG plants due to lack of fuel has reduced electricity production.

The government has struck deals for LNG; payment in dollars is necessary for the supply of the gas. But, fuel is not being supplied due to non-payment of the dues.

Many parts of the country are facing at least 16-hour loadshedding due to low power production.

The government’s thermal power plants are generating 1,084 MW of electricity, said sources in the power division.

The production of private sector power plants is 10,156 MW.

The power generation from wind is 700,000 MW, and, power generation from solar energy is 112 MW.

The bagasse-based power plants are generating 166 MW of electricity.

Power generation from nuclear fuel is 2,274 MW.

Power generation from hydropower sources is 4,916 MW.

The total power generation capacity is 36,039 MW.
