Netflix to adapt mobile gaming hit Clash of Clans into animated series
Another major mobile gaming franchise is getting the screen treatment—Netflix has announced it’s developing an animated series based on Clash of Clans, one of the world’s most popular and highest-grossing mobile strategy games. The series will also draw inspiration from Clash Royale, its successful spin-off, both developed by Supercell.
The upcoming show will center on "a determined but in-over-his-head barbarian who must rally a band of misfits to defend their village and navigate the comically absurd politics of war," according to Netflix.
Fletcher Moules, known for directing several of Supercell’s official Clash of Clans animated shorts, will serve as the showrunner. He’ll be joined by Ron Weiner (30 Rock, Silicon Valley), who is on board as the series’ writer.
The adaptation comes amid a broader trend of video game-inspired shows making waves in Hollywood, with recent hits like The Last of Us and Fallout proving the genre's potential. Netflix has already seen success in this space with acclaimed series like Arcane: A League of Legends Story and Castlevania, further cementing its strategy of aligning gaming and entertainment content.
Interestingly, despite Netflix’s expanding Netflix Games catalog—which offers a wide variety of mobile and casual games to subscribers—Clash of Clans itself is not part of that lineup. Still, the series could serve as a powerful crossover moment between streaming and gaming audiences.
