Australia lauds Pakistan’s mediation efforts in US-Iran conflict

Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan Timothy Kane on Tuesday has felicitated Pakistan on its excellent diplomacy between the United States and Iran. He said that Pakistan has played an outstanding mediator's role in resolving the US-Iran conflict, and Australia appreciates Pakistan’s mediation efforts in this regard.

A large number of political, social, and diplomatic personalities attended the reception hosted in account of “Australia Day in Spring 2026.” The reception opened with the national anthems of both countries.

While addressing the gathering the Australian High Commissioner Timothy Kane mentioned that Australia values Pakistan’s mediation efforts in the US-Iran dispute adding that "Australia and Pakistan are both important middle powers in the Indo-Pacific region."

Elaborating further the Australian envoy was of the View that both the countries face similar challenges including climate change, water security, regional stability, and food security.

He also announced that Australia’s men’s national cricket team would soon be visiting Pakistan to play three ODIs.

The Chief Guest Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani expressed his commitment to further strengthening parliamentary diplomacy between Pakistan and Australia. He said that 20,000 Pakistani students are currently studying in Australia, while cooperation between Pakistan and Australia is growing stronger in trade, agriculture, environment, and counterterrorism.

The Chairman Senate also welcomed the upcoming visit of the Australian cricket team to Pakistan. On this occasion, the Australian High Commissioner and the Chairman Senate also cut a cake together.
