Another 14 Covid-19 deaths as ministers say people ignoring SOPs

The recent uptick in new coronavirus cases is producing the undesired consequences as another 14 people – 12 in Punjab and two in Sindh – lost their lives during the past 24 hours (Monday).

It means, show the figures released by National Command and Operation Centre on Tuesday morning, the death toll in Pakistan has now reached 6,673.

On Monday, the officials administered 26,211 tests in different parts of the country after which the overall number climbed to 4,127,326.

During the same period, the virus was detected in another 625 people, raising the total number of cases to 324,084.

After the addition of these latest cases and some coronavirus patients fully recovering from the infection, the number of active cases in the country currently stands at 9,461. 

Out of these active cases, 805 patients are being treated in different hospitals while 80 of them have been placed on ventilators due to their critical condition.

Commenting on the current situation, Federal Minister Asad Umar in a tweet warned, “We are collectively committing a blunder by recklessly ignoring all the SOPs,” and added that the results had started showing.

He mentioned that the daily Covid-19 mortality rate last week was, representing a 140 percent against the past few weeks. “If we do not change our current path, we will lose both lives and livelihoods,” Asad Umar noted.

Similarly, another federal cabinet member Shireen Mazari too regretted that the people had sadly stopped wearing masks in public places, especially markets, offices and restaurants.

“It is an act of extreme selfishness not to wear masks as you endanger not only yourself but also your family, associates, workers and everyone you come into contact with,” Mazari said.
