Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa Wednesday called upon the world to focus on Afghanistan in order to apply brakes to the emerging humanitarian crisis in the strife-torn country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to the press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), he was talking to NATO’s Senior Civilian Representative Stefano Pontecorvo who called on him at GHQ in Rawalpindi.
Both discussed matters of mutual interest, peace and stability in the region, particularly in Afghanistan.
NATO’s representative, on the occasion, praised Pakistan’s role in Afghanistan.
He was particularly appreciative of Pakistan’s role in the evacuation of foreign nationals as well as Afghan citizens from Kabul following the Taliban takeover on August 15.
Stefano assured Gen Bajwa that the NATO countries would remain in touch with Pakistan and would increase cooperation with the country on the Afghan issue.
