Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said on Monday that she would not rest until and unless all flood-affected people were rehabilitated and their losses were compensated, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Speaking to the media, she said that relief and rescue operations carried out in the flood-hit areas this time were unprecedented. “I myself, my ministers and officers remained in the field,” she said, adding, “The provincial government did not consider the affected people a burden, but provided them with food, shelter and all other facilities.”

Maryam further said that the government did all this on its own, and did not beg others for the aid.

She informed that the government had introduced a package worth Rs100 billion for the rehabilitation of the flood-hit people. “Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Nawaz Sharif have also lauded the steps taken for the rehabilitation of those displaced by floods,” the chief minister said, adding, “Now, nobody will get the amounts meant for the affected people.”

She announced that each affected family would be given Rs50,000 immediately, while they would draw the remaining amount from their bank accounts through ATMs.

Maryam said that by doing so, the provincial government had not done any favour. “Today, people give examples of the development taking place in Punjab,” she said, adding, “Same development projects have been launched in all cities of the province; big or small. In cities where there was even no concept of government transport, electric buses started plying on roads.”

The chief minister informed that the families of those dying from floods would be handed Rs1 million each. “Those whose homes were washed away will receive Rs500,000 each, while those whose homes were partially destroyed will receive Rs300,000 each,” she said, adding, “Rs20,000 per acre will be given to the farmers losing their crops to floods.”
