Ejaz Chaudhry’s appeals in May 9 cases fixed for hearing in LHC on Sept 25

The Lahore High Court has scheduled the hearing of appeals filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ejaz Ahmed Chaudhry, challenging his multiple convictions in cases related to the May 9 unrest, 24NewsHD TV reported on Saturday. 

According to court officials, the LHC registrar's office has fixed Sept 25 as the date for the proceedings.

A two-member bench, comprising Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi and Justice Tariq Mehmood Bajwa, will preside over the case.

PTI senior leader appealed the sentences handed down by an anti-terrorism court, which had convicted him in four separate cases stemming from the violent incidents that erupted across Pakistan following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan on May 9, 2023. 

 The trial court had sentenced Ejaz Ahmed Chaudhry to ten years of imprisonment in each of the four cases, amounting to a cumulative sentence of forty years.

Chaudhry, a senior party figure, was among those handed significant prison terms.

Chaudhry's appeal, arguing that the verdicts were excessive and based on insufficient evidence, is being closely watched as it could have implications for numerous other PTI members facing similar legal battles.

The Lahore High Court's decision will be a critical test for the legal challenges mounted against the convictions stemming from the May 9 episode.
