Indian man slits wife’s throat in public

A disturbing incident has come to light from Balasore in Indian state of Odisha where a man attacked his wife in the middle of a busy street and slit her throat, reported news18.com on Saturday.

The horrifying attack was caught on camera, video of which has now surfaced on the internet. The attack left the woman severely injured and she is now fighting for her life in hospital.

According to a report in OTV, the incident occurred at around 4:30 PM in Pothana Mohalla village under Balasore Town police limits on Thursday, September 18. What began as a verbal exchange soon turned violent that left people nearby shocked. Locals immediately intervened to rescue the woman and also restrained the attacker before handing him over to the police.

The accused has been identified as Sheikh Amjad. As per the report, the woman had been staying separately in rented accommodation and had strained ties with him.

During the argument, tensions escalated quickly. Eyewitnesses shared that Amjad appeared to be forcing his wife to talk to him. But when she refused, he pulled out a sharp knife from his pocket and slit her throat in broad daylight.

The shocking assault was caught on video which has since spread online. The footage shows Amjad speaking to the woman, at times holding her face as though compelling her to respond. He is also seen dragging her. The video then shows him holding her by the hair and then slitting her throat.

Locals present at the spot rushed to the woman’s aid. Bleeding profusely, she was initially admitted to Balasore district headquarters hospital in a critical condition.

As her health deteriorated, she was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for further treatment. Family members and locals accompanied her during the emergency transfer.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that the roadside conversation appeared to be an attempt by Amjad to resolve a dispute. But when the woman reportedly disagreed with him, he attacked her.

Amjad, a resident of Cuttack’s Buxi Bazaar, was caught on the spot by locals before he could escape.

Balasore Town Police have detained the accused and are interrogating him. Officials confirmed that legal proceedings are in progress.
