Jennifer stunned to learn Witherspoon’s real name after 25 years of friendship

Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon may have been friends and co-stars for more than two decades, but even Aniston only just discovered her longtime pal’s real name.

The Friends alum, 56, was visibly shocked when Witherspoon, 49, revealed during a recent interview that her birth name is actually Laura Jean Reese Witherspoon. The hilarious exchange took place during LADBible’s Do You Even Know Me? segment, recorded as part of the duo’s promotional tour for season four of their Apple TV+ hit The Morning Show.

When Witherspoon quizzed Aniston about her middle name, giving options of Jane, Jean, or Joan, Aniston confidently guessed “Jane.” But when Witherspoon corrected her with “Jean,” she casually added, “It’s confusing. I’m Laura Jean.”

Aniston’s jaw dropped at the revelation. “Laura Jean? That’s your name? Who the hell is Laura?” she exclaimed, adding that she had no plans to start calling her friend by the name she never knew.

Witherspoon explained that while Laura Jean is her full legal name, she has always gone by Reese, adopting her mother’s maiden name professionally when she launched her acting career.

The revelation was particularly surprising given the pair’s history. Witherspoon first appeared alongside Aniston in 2000 when she guest-starred on Friends as Rachel Green’s younger sister, Jill. Since then, their bond has only deepened, both off-screen and in their acclaimed work together on The Morning Show.

During the same chat, Aniston revealed her own middle name,  Joanna, leaving Witherspoon equally surprised.

The actresses then shared a laugh over a trivia question about the infamous Friends episode where Rachel disastrously combined trifle with shepherd’s pie after magazine pages stuck together. Witherspoon correctly recalled that the dish included minced beef and peas.

The lighthearted segment delighted fans, many of whom admitted they were just as stunned as Aniston to learn Witherspoon’s real first name. Social media quickly lit up with reactions from viewers who said they’d always assumed “Reese” was her birth name.

The timing of the playful revelation comes as The Morning Show launched its highly anticipated fourth season on September 17, with new episodes dropping weekly. The Emmy-winning series, which stars both Aniston and Witherspoon, has already been renewed for a fifth season.
