John Cena makes history at WrestleMania 41, becomes 17-time World Champion

In a historic moment that shook the WWE Universe, John Cena etched his name into the record books by claiming his 17th world championship at WrestleMania 41, surpassing Ric Flair's long-standing record of 16 title reigns. 

The monumental win came in what is likely Cena’s final WrestleMania appearance, following his earlier announcement that he will retire at the end of 2025.

The event took place at a packed Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, where Cena faced undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes in the main event. 

The match, widely hailed as an instant classic, was a rollercoaster of momentum shifts, near-falls, and emotionally charged moments.

Ric Flair, a two-time WWE Hall of Fame inductee and the man whose record Cena broke, took to social media platform X to express admiration for the achievement.

“Congrats to my great friend John Cena on becoming a 17x Champion! It was only a matter of time! You and Cody Rhodes put on an instant classic! Much respect! WOOOOO,” Flair posted.

 Cena earned the title opportunity by winning the Elimination Chamber earlier this year, but the road to WrestleMania was anything but traditional. 

In a shocking twist, Cena turned heel for the first time in years, aligning with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and rapper Travis Scott in a brutal ambush on Cody Rhodes.

 Cena's entrance at WrestleMania reflected his character transformation — gone were the vibrant colors and elaborate lighting. 

Instead, the arena was met with a black screen and his iconic theme song, signaling a darker, more ruthless persona.

 The match itself delivered on all fronts. Rhodes initially countered Cena's signature Five Knuckle Shuffle with a well-timed Cody Cutter. Cena retaliated with multiple Attitude Adjustments (AAs), including one following a clever drop-toehold reversal of Rhodes' attempt at a Bionic Elbow.

 Amid the chaos, the referee was temporarily incapacitated, nullifying a potential win for Rhodes after he connected with his finishing move, Cross Rhodes. Cena seized the opportunity, slamming Rhodes’ head into an exposed turnbuckle before delivering a devastating fourth AA that sealed the victory.

 With the win, John Cena not only cemented his legacy as the most decorated world champion in WWE history but also delivered a WrestleMania moment that fans will never forget. 

If this is truly his final appearance at the "Showcase of the Immortals," Cena has gone out in a blaze of glory.
