A PTI candidate led the by-election in NA-245 Karachi as per the results of more than 90 percent of a total of 263 polling stations in the constituency, 24NewsHD TV channel reported.

The Election Commission has received the results of 240 polling stations on the RMS system so far. Mehmood Maulvi of PTI is leading with 27,168 votes, followed by MQM's Moeed Anwar with 11,678 votes, TLP's Mohammad Ahmad Raza with 8578 votes while Farooq Sattar just got 3130 votes.

The number of voters in the constituency is 515003, while the turnout remained very low.

Earlier, the Election Commission had given one-hour extra time at three polling stations, adding one hour to the polling time for PS 143, 144, and 56.

15 candidates are contesting in the by-election. Out of 263 polling stations for the election, 201 polling stations were declared highly sensitive.

CCTV cameras were installed inside the most sensitive polling stations, while apart from the police, Pakistan Army and Rangers will also be deployed.

It is pertinent that the seat was vacant due to the death of PTI member Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain.
