PPP asks President Arif Hussain Alvi to hold inquiry into matter

 Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Nadeem Afzal Chan has urged President Arif Alvi to hold a transparent inquiry into the matter as it has brought a bad name for the President House, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the PPP stalwart questioned who is stronger than President in the office. The credibility of the President is at stake and it is his responsibility to explain the issue, he added.  

The denial of President Arif Alvi’s signing Official Secret Act and Army Amendment Act bills has created a stir in the country.

President Alvi, in a startling turn of events, said he did not sign the bills amending the Official Secrets Act and the Pakistan Army Act into law as he "disagreed with these laws".

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Alvi said he had asked his office staff to return the bills unsigned within the stipulated time to make them "uneffective".

The bills have already been passed by both houses of Pakistan's parliament but Alvi opposes the the two bills.

PPP leader Nadeem also expressed his anguish and anger over the sad incident of Jaranwala.  

Earlier, he said that an unnecessary delay in elections will unite the political forces. He said that someone has to play the role of Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan, to get the political forces united.

“Only Asif Zardari and Nawaz Sharif would be pivotal if an alliance will be required to build,” he opined.
