The Sindh government has decided to grant fishermen the status of labourers, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.

According to the channel report, this decision will allow fishermen to access benefits under labour laws, including social security schemes.

It is worthy of mention that the coastal belt of Sindh is home to millions of fishermen who rely on fishing for their livelihood.

The Department of Livestock and Fisheries has submitted a summary to the Chief Minister, recommending this change.

Over 100,000 fishermen are already registered with the Fish Harbour Authority and the Fisheries Department.

The summary will be presented at the Sindh Cabinet meeting, and upon approval, the Sindh government will amend labour laws to officially include fishermen in the labour category.
