Punjab IG orders to intensify crackdown against big drug dealers, smugglers

Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Karim has ordered to intensify crackdown against big drug dealers and smugglers under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s ‘Drug-Free Punjab’ Vision, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.

According to spokesperson, Punjab Police arrested 33,940 drug peddlers this year and registered 33,542 cases.

Police recovered 17,577 kg hashish, 1,538 kg heroin, 1,137 kg ice, 750 kg opium and more than 487,000 liters of alcohol from drug peddlers. 

As many as 4,830 drug peddlers arrested in the provincial capital Lahore this year and registered 4,675 cases.

Police also seized 1,752 kg hashish, 103 kg heroin, 513 kg ice, 46 kg opium and 20,580 liters of alcohol in Lahore.

Punjab IG ordered that all the accused involved in the supply chain should be brought to justice and given strict punishment.

Accelerate action against those involved in drug trafficking in and around educational institutions and hostels, IG Punjab ordered.

IG further ordered to take strict action against those involved in online drug buying and selling.
