ECP releases schedule for by-polls in Sindh, Balochistan

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Monday released the polling schedule for the three vacant seats in the Sindh and Balochistan Assemblies, reported 24NewsHD TV.
The polling is to be held for the three vacant seats, in Sindh Assembly PS-43 Sanghar, PS-52 Umarkot and PS-88 Malir, however, the ECP has issued the by-polls schedule for only two seats PS-43 Sanghar and PS-88 Malir where the election will be held on February 16, 2021.
In Balochistan, the by-polls will be held on PB-20 Pashin on the same date.
According to the schedule, the aspiring candidates can obtain and submit the nomination papers from December 23 to December 28.
The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be completed by January 4, 2021. The candidates can challenge the Returning Officers decisions in the Appellate Tribunal till February 8.
The final list of candidates will be released on January 16, 2021 and the election symbols will be allotted to the candidates on January 17.
Last week, the Election Commission of Pakistan has decided to hold the by-poll for eight vacant seats of different constituencies of the national and provincial assemblies. The ECP has directed the provincial governments to make sure the implementation of the coronavirus SOPs while holding the elections.
The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) had barred Election Commission from holding by-elections till January 31, 2021 in the wake of coronavirus.
There are two vacant seats in the National Assembly while there are three vacant seats in Sindh assembly and one seat each in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The elections for the national assembly will be held in two constituencies NA-75 Sialkot and NA-45 Orakzai Agency. In Punjab, the election will be held in PP-51 Gujranwala, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in PK-63 Nowshera.
